Negative numbers reflect sales. If there are more positives than negatives, we're good. If it's close, call me to verify. Inventory is always somewhat fictional.
Inventory tables are double rows to make them usable on small screens.
Common name and container in column 1.
Count is how many we think we have left. Price is per tree.
Height will be there next year, we hope.

Utility Trees
”What is a utility tree?” you ask.
400 skyfest poplar 1 gallon x 4 feet, just unloaded off the truck.
Cheap doesn’t mean it can’t be pretty too. This is a row of native chokecherry against a row of poplar. You can also pick the berries for jam.
A block of golden willow in 2 gallon pots. These range from 3-4 feet tall -- big enough to compete with grass, and be seen from the back of a mower.
A utility tree is one that works for a living. A tree:
- Tough as nails, requiring little or no care once established.
- Inexpensive
- Fast growing
These are my shelterbelt trees. My privacy hedges. My naturalization trees and shrubs.
”You grow these by the thousand. Why are they in pre-orders?”
These are my bread and butter trees. They leave by the thousand too. I run out of these every year, or rather I run out of ones at the target size. I aim for 4 feet, but lots of them leave at 2.5 feet. They just aren’t here long enough.
This table is not limited to shelterbelt trees, but is everything that I have more than a hundred of. Stuff you buy by the pickup load, not by the each.
It includes my Fall Inventory (always semi-fictional...) and what I’ve ordered for spring.
Sizes
- Plugs and bareroot trees. These are a few inches to just over a foot in height. They are inexpensive, but require more care. See the Inventory > Seedling Trees section for more info.
- Styroblock trees These are plug trees that have been grown on for 1 or more years For leaf trees they are about 24-36" tall. Conifers 12-24" tall.
- 1 gallon trees 2 gallon trees These are in 3 and 6 liter pots. A 6 liter pot is about 7" across and 8 inches tall. Does well in a 1 foot diameter auger hole.
Planting
If you're planning on planting a bunch, you really should read the page on Ideas > Shelterbelts It will give you information on spacing, and preparation, and some guidelines to getting optimum growth.
