Concolor Fir (White Fir, Silver fir)

This fir is also called white fir, or silver fir due to the very pale color of the needles.
My mom had a concolor fir and a blue spruce in the back yard. They planted them more or less when I was born. When I last left home they were 25 feet tall. Some years a ring-necked pheasant would winter under the spruce tree.
The spruce, was, well, a spruce. But I loved the concolor with it's long fat soft needles, "Sea-foam green" my mom called that colour.
One of my tree instructors says there are concolors in Calgary. They do well until the top of the tree is out of the yard's shelter. The needles at the top dry out in the chinook winds. I figure they should do ok here.
Concolor is a marginal tree here. I think the worst risk is bud dehydration in winter. Plant where is gets some protection from wind, but not in a hot pocket. Plant where it gets some supplemental moisture. If you keep the grass nearby green, that should be enough.
I've got an 8 footer footer in my front yard now.
