Trees for Wet areas
Symptoms. These don't have to happen in this order.
- Leaf tip twisting
- Twig twisting
- Red discoloration
- Leaf wilting
- Chlorosis (leaves going yellow)
Mild cases and the tree will recover, although it may lack vigour for a year or more.
Flood Tolerant Trees
These are trees that can put up with water for extensive periods of time.
- Green Ash
- Silver Maple
- Red Maple (but needs acidic soil)
- Balsam Poplar
- Plains Cottonwood
- Swamp white oak
- Most willows
- Elms
Shrubs
- Dogwood
- River Alder
- Willows (but not all willows)
- Elderberry
On the reverse: Trees that are intolerant of flooding and soggy soil: Sugar Maple Buckeye Junipers Walnut and Butternut Almost all ines. Red Oak White Oak Basswood (Linden tree)
