Year overview for 2008

Gainfully unemployed.

This year marked a transition. The school where I worked was in trouble. Staff turnover was high. The vice principal had taken a contract with a different school effective next fall. The principal was stepping down. Staff turnover was very high. Few students had committed to coming back.

In June, after the last of the kids had gone home, there was a staff meeting, and it was announced that the school was not going to reopen in September.

I was fortunate: I was working there halftime, only 10 minutes away with a boss that cut me slack for the tree farm. I put in most of my hours in winter, and was in only 2 mornings a week during May and June, the farm's busy time.

But where could I find such similar flexibility.

Laura said that it was time to start doing trees full time. She would continue to work as an editor.
