Political tags - such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth - are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire.

Robert A. Heinlein

Late Lilac

Syringa villosa

Late lilacs come into bloom just as the common lilacs are finishing. Their scent is lighter, crisper. And they don't sucker nearly as much. This latter characteristic makes them a bit easier to work with.

The flowers are a bit smaller, but there are more clumps. Probably balances out.

Having both gives you a longer blooming season.
